Prepare Your Child For Success With Chess!

Rowan Tate, Founder & Coach
I, Coach Rowan, 34, have been teaching chess to kids as a primary occupation for 10 years.  In that time I've distilled down the most essential chess knowledge as taught by masters, and made it simple and relatable for kids to learn and apply.
I always strive to make the lessons a lot of fun, as students always learn more when they're having a good time.  I love seeing students improve and enjoy inspiring them to this wonderful passion for chess and learning in general.
My USCF chess rating is 1839 (under my legal name 'Brian R Tate'), so I am an "A Class" player qualified to teach students up to at least a 1400 tournament rating, having myself played in over 75 tournaments.  However I focus much more on teaching than competing these days.  believe my teaching ability supercedes my play ability.

I founded WIZ-KIDS in 2009 to share my passion for chess with kids, help them learn essential life skills and lessons, and to do what I love for a living while raising money to bring chess to the underprivileged (giving new generations the tools to rise out of poverty).
Coach Rowan is available for private in-home chess lessons in: Denver Metro Area and surrounding areas: Boulder, Superior, Louisville, Lafayette, Longmont, Broomfield, Westminster, Thornton, Northglenn, Erie, Golden, Lakewood, Englewood, Aurora, etc.

Jack Woehr, Lakewood Coach       2015 Colorado Senior Co-Champion
Jack is probably the most knowledgeable student of chess I know.  Having decades of useful information at his disposal, he knows what kids need to hear, and his talks are intriguing, showing students how vast and interesting is the world of chess.  He is patient, diligent, and responsible -- a great asset to the WIZ-KIDS team.

Matt O'Hara, Denver Coach
A highly accomplished chess player who has been both expert and master (2200+) rated, Matt conveys the critical chess knowledge with ease.  His working understanding of the game shows kids how they too can approach chess with such a thoughtful and masterly way.  He excels at showing Grandmaster games that show kids how to find even the moves that masters make.
